Mahan Moin is an artist/songwriter, born in Iran and now living in Sweden.
When Mahan was 9 years old she escaped her country of Iran because of political ideas that her family had. She had no other choice but to pretend to be a boy and call the smuggler “dad” until weeks after they arrived to Sweden.
Mahan and her family escaped to Sweden and had to keep hiding and moving around until they could get legal permission to stay. Living in this European country made her a strong believer of that everything is possible. You can tell by her lyrics that she is very optimistic and thinks outside the box.
When she was 9 years old she started to stand on different stages to perform. Her father and aunt are also musicians, that is why music has been the closest way for her to express her stories. In 2002 she was in a girl band named Adorus that was signed to the label Bonnier Music.
Later on the group split up and Mahan started to write music on her own.
Working with several producers during the years mostly with Fredrik Rinman “Dead Mono”, and Ulf Engström “TonSTHLM”, who she wrote the song “DESIRE” with. In 2011 she was one of the contestants in a Persian song competition similiar to Idol, named Googoosh Music Academy that was broadcasted from London, and as the name implies the big persian star Googoosh was the head judge.
Her first performance with the song “Sarmast” gained critical acclaim from the 55 million viewers world wide, and Googoosh said words like:
“You are made for the stage”.
Mahan came in at third place in the music contest, and from that moment on her fan base grew bigger than she could ever imagine.
Two years later in 2014 she was one of the contestants in the Swedish Melodifestivalen with the song ALEO that she wrote with Anderz Wrethov.
Aleo is an invented word that means Strong, equal, together, love, force, power, unique. Often described as a tree; it’s about not denying who you are and accepting that together, we are much stronger and able to make a bigger change.
2015 Mahan wrote the anthem and perfomed the song THE WORLD IS MINE, for the womens ice hockey world cup.
2016 she also wrote the signatur song for the MAXIV Science Laboratory in LUND and performed for the Swedish King, Primeminister and a big audience with a scientific background.
Amongst Mahan’s musical idols was first of all Aretha Franklin, and later on Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, The doors, System of a down, Muse, U2 but she is also influenced by Bollywood music and of course traditional persian music.
